Walter R. “Walt” Elmer, 81, of Gibsonburg, passed away Sunday evening December 6, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was born January 12, 1939 in Ferndale, MI the son of Andrew and Alice (Andrews) Elmer. Walt was a 1958 graduate of Gibsonburg High School. Walt was a United States Army Veteran serving from 1959- 1962. On August 20, 1960 he married Ruth Ann “Susie” Balsizer. Walt retired from Toledo Jeep after 35 years in 1997. He was a member of the Local 12 Union and the Masonic Lodge. Known to many as Papa, his greatest enjoyment came from watching his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Susie Elmer; daughters: Kim Hill, Pam (Tony) Mazurek, Debby (Steven) Cantrell; Susan (Chip) Henderson all of Gibsonburg, OH; grandchildren: Heather (Jim) Hall, Lindsay (William “Clyde”) Ickes, Andrew (Marisa) Cantrell, Abby Cantrell, Emily Mazurek, Libby Henderson, Tyler Henderson; great-grandchildren Ali Ce and Elli Ickes; sister-in-law Norma Elmer, sister-in-law Pat Smith, brother-in-law Butch Balsizer; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Douglas Elmer, infant twin daughter, brother Donald (Ruth Ann) Elmer and nephew Bradley Elmer. Private family services will take place on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Gibsonburg United Methodist Church. A public celebration of life will take place at a later date when Co-Vid restrictions have been lifted. Walt will be laid to rest with military honors, in West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg, OH.
