Walter N. King, 94 of Fremont passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Elmwood Assisted Living. He was born on November 6, 1929 to the late Harvey and Estella (Hetrick) King.
A 1947 graduate of Fremont Ross High School, he went on to serve his country in the United States Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean War.
On February 20, 1954, Walter married Joyce Buehler at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lindsey. This year, they celebrated their 70th anniversary.
Walter worked as a supervisor of maintenance for Union Carbide for 44 years. He also farmed his family's land and raised registered angus cattle.
Walter was very active within his community. He was a member of the American Legion, as well as volunteering with Share & Care and Sandco Industries with his wife for over 20 years. He was very involved with his church family at Trinity Lutheran, where he was a member of many groups. He was most recently a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Fremont.
His family will remember him for his tinkering. There was nothing he couldn't fix. Walter loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed putting together puzzles with Joyce later in life.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joyce of Fremont; sons, John (Mary Lou) King of Tiffin, and Keith (Beverly) King of Fremont; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and siblings, Donald King of Cincinnati and Marie (Sheldon) Overmyer of Elmore.
Walter is preceded in death by his siblings, Lamar (Jane) King and Howard (Nancy) King.
An hour of visitation will be held on Monday, March 11 from 10:00-11:00am at St. John's Lutheran Church with a memorial service beginning at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Faith Lutheran Cemetery.
