Virginia "Penny" (Pendleton) Walther, 85, of Fremont, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022 at St. Vincent Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was born April 2, 1937 in Springfield, OH, the only child of William Howard and Virginia Jane (Boomhower) Pendleton.
She married R. Ervin Walther on January 23, 1959. He preceded her in death on September 21, 2006
Penny attended Morris Harvey College where she met her future husband. She transferred to and was a graduate of Capital University (BS in Education) and The Ohio State University (MS). She went on to work for Columbus City Schools, Olentangy Local School District, and Fremont City Schools at Stamm and Otis. She taught elementary school and later became a Title 1 Reading specialist. She retired from teaching in 1998. Involved in music her entire life, Penny played the piano (from age 12), the organ, guitar and the violin. As a lifelong educator, Penny enjoyed classes at Terra Technical College, history, and bus tours. She taught all of us the meaning of service to others and compassion.
Penny was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the senior choir and the Abigail circle. She directed the children's choir, which she named Alleluia-in-Action and founded the Handbell Choir. In her lifetime, she has been a member of 2 St. Paul, Resurrection, Lord of Life and St. John's Lutheran Churches.
Left to cherish her memories are her sons Timothy of Dundee, MI and Mark (Lisa) of Fremont, OH; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and extended family.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 from 2-4 and 5-7 P.M. at Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, 900 North Street, Fremont, OH. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, December 21,2022 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 212 Clover Street, Fremont, OH, with one hour visitation preceding. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church of Fremont, Capital University or Trinity Seminary.
