Thomas “Tom” Stierwalt was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, brother, and friend. He left this world surrounded by family on December 14, 2023 at the age of 73.
He was born in Fremont, OH to William and Mary (Erchenbrecher) Stierwalt on May 06, 1950. After graduating from Fremont Ross in 1968, he continued his education at the University of Toledo where he graduated with his Juris Doctorate in 1975. Studies weren’t his sole focus during these years though. He found the love of his life, Kathleen Mehling in 1974, and they officially tied the knot in 1976. They have married for 47 years and have six children, Elizabeth (Kevin) Seibert, Thomas Stierwalt Jr., Tyler (Sara) Stierwalt, Kyle (Rachel) Stierwalt, Sarah (James) McAloon, and Madalyn Stierwalt, as well as thirteen grandchildren. Tom is also survived by his brother William (Cindy) Stierwalt Jr. and brother-in-law Mike (Angela)Mehling.
Anyone who met Tom knew he was an avid runner, which led him to become a running mentor within the community, coaching and supporting athletes over the years. Although his list of hobbies are numerous, some of his other favorite past times were combing the Catabwa Cliffs for beach glass, painting, traveling, and reading a good book. Tom was also a pillar of the Fremont community, serving as the Sandusky County Prosecutor for sixteen years, and aiding on various boards and committees, to include: Bishop Hoffman Catholic Schools, the Sandusky County YMCA, Boy Scouts of America, and Our Lady of Pines.
Without his influence, his family will surely struggle to answer jeopardy questions, update the lake house journal, and find the most obscure restaurants while traveling.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Jeannie Stierwalt; his brother, Kenny Stierwalt; his nephew, Billy Stierwalt; his mother and father-in-law, Weed and Betty Mehling; and his brother-in-law, Alban Mehling.
