If you are reading this then you know I’m on a new adventure. I, Steve Gloer, 66, left my place on earth on Thursday, May 19, 2022. I was born on a great night, December 31, 1955, New Year’s Eve, to Eldon and Janet (Ruch) Gloer. My dad wanted a tax deduction and my mom wanted the first New Year’s Baby…Dad won. Everyone always celebrates on my birthday.
I had three sisters and one brother to join me; Bev Rich, Mary (Dave) Brown, Linda Nahm and Ron (Sherry) Gloer.
I met the love of my life, Veronica Ayres while at Fremont Ross High School. After graduating we were married October 14, 1978, yes during deer hunting season. We were blessed with two wonderful sons and later, two beautiful daughters-in-law; Zach (Jen) Gloer of Punta Gorda, FL and Zane (Brittany) Gloer of Cleveland, OH. My sons were my best friends and we enjoyed many things together. Hunting for deer, turkey and duck; fishing, boating, scuba diving, sporting events and restoring old boats just to name a few.
Along came my granddaughters and my heart grew five times bigger. Yes, Clara, Emilia, Millie, Madelyn and Ada became my life, they had me wrapped around their fingers.
My life began after working for U.P.S. for 42 years, “What Brown did for me …” I also ran my charter boat “Fish Gloer” for 30 years. In the winters I enjoyed getting out of the snow. Veronica and I traveled, and enjoyed fishing and boating at our winter home in Florida.
Along with my family and siblings I leave to remember me; my mother and father in-law Ron and Marie Ayres of Fremont; sister-in-law Ginny (Don) Goedde; brothers-in-law Todd Ayres and Troy (Julie) Ayres along with many nieces and nephews who were very special to me.
My wish was to have my body donated to the Ohio State Medical Center’s body donation program. I finally was accepted to Ohio State! O-H-I-O. My other wish was to have a celebration of life. If I know my wife, there will be a theme. She’s the best party planner…It’s a “Veronica thing”. She’ll ensure this is my biggest and best party.
I ask you to celebrate my life, share stories and continue my legacy on Thursday, June 2, 2022 from 4-8:00P.M. at the Ottawa County Fairgrounds, 7870 State Route 163, Oak Harbor, OH. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Oak Harbor Conservation Club for a Youth and Veterans Hunt, 975 Gordon Rd., Oak Harbor, OH 43449.
Fish On, I’ve Gotta Go….. Love Steve. And remember everything I’ve taught you, the fun, the good times, the love, Pass it on!
