Stephen Michael Wasserman, 70, most recently of Green Springs passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024 at the Toledo Hospital. He was born on May 13, 1954, in Fremont, a son to the late Richard Sr. "Dick" and Julia (Ledwedge) Wasserman.
Stephen was a 1972 Fremont St. Joseph High School graduate. During his high school years he was an impressive football athlete, even setting a record to make his way into the the St. Joseph High School Hall of Fame.
Throughout his life, Stephen was known for his unwavering dedication to his profession. Expanding his career at Bank 1, Clyde Savings Bank, Old Fort Bank, until retiring as the CEO of Firelands Credit Union. His leadership and innovative approach left an indelible mark on the banking industry.
Stephen also fought a lifelong battle with type 1 diabetes, a challenge he faced with an intrepid spirit and relentless determination. His resilience in the face of this illness was a testament to his strength, inspiring all who knew him.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Stephen found solace in his love of trains, specifically the Nickel Plate Road. This created a lifelong for passion for model trains. He was also deeply rooted in his Catholic faith as a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clyde.
Left to cherish his memories are his children, Rick Wasserman of Vernon Hills, IL, Jake (Taylor) Wasserman and their children, Avery and Caleb of Clyde, and Megan (Rachid Youssouf Souleyman) Wasserman and their son Taj Hoceray of Seattle, WA; siblings Rich (Teresa) of Fremont, Gus (Tammy) of Old Fort, Jim (Kim) of St. Joseph, MI, and Anne Borer of Fremont; and former spouse and mother of his children, Cheryl Mehl.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held at the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory on August 29, 2024, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Mary Catholic Church, 609 Vine St, Clyde, OH at 10:30 AM. Graveside Services will follow at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Fremont.
Memorials in honor of Stephen may be directed to Bellevue Immaculate Conception School or to the Mad River & NKP Railroad Museum.
