Ronald “Ron” Winke, 85, of Fremont, passed away at home surrounded by his family on April 1, 2022. He was born in Fremont on April 20, 1936, to Raymond C. and Clara (Halbisen) Winke. Ron worked for Lightning Products and later Whirlpool for 25 years until his retirement in 1998. While working at Whirlpool he was also a sheriff’s deputy. Ron was an amateur HAM operator for 45 years, with the call sign WB8NMK. He was a member of the Sandusky County Amateur Radio Club as well as Grace Community Church. On April 30, 1955, he married Ida Estep at St. Joseph Catholic Church and they shared 62 years of marriage until her passing on October 27, 2017.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Steven (Charlotte) Winke of Clyde, Sue Trick of Fremont, Sheila (Dave) Parks of Clyde, Mark (Kathy Roe) Winke of Fremont; grandchildren, Teresa M. Williams, Justin M. (Katie) Winke, Jennifer Trick, Randy (Sharon) Frey Jr., Tanna (Shawn) Spaide, Shawnte (Rick) Montalvo, Leah Winke, Dillon Winke, and 19 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Ida Winke, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Norm (Elenore) Winke, Joanne (Art) Beard, Dorthy (Leo) Dickman, Donald (Jean) Winke, Marie Smallwood and Dianne Johnson.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2022, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, 900 North Street, Fremont, Ohio, 43420. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Pastor Tim Wisehart will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
