Helena resident, Ronald “Ron” I. Schmidt, passed away Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018 at Toledo ProMedica Hospital.
Born on July 13, 1949 in Toledo, Ron was the only son of the late Ronald H. and Norma (Vick) Schmidt. As a 1969 graduate of Clay High School, he was drafted during the Vietnam Conflict. He served actively as a truck driver in the Army’s 24th Transportation Division from 1970-1971 and was later transferred to the Reserves.
Ron worked on the railroad for CSX Transportation as a conductor and brakeman, for over 40 years, retiring in Feb. 2010. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and boating.
Ron married Rhonda Hites in Ft. Campbell, KY on March 14, 1970. Rhonda survives in Helena.
Also surviving are their children, Christina (Robert) Patton of Columbus, Curt, Kyle, Kory all of Helena, and Casey (Trisha) Schmidt of Green Springs; grandchildren Kendra, Nick & Nathan Patton, Sophia & Katie Schmidt, Emma & Owen Schmidt and Kent Schmidt; 3 great-grandchildren; and sister, Judy Clymer of Maumee.
He is preceded in death by his parents and son, Kevin R. Schmidt.
Visitation will be on Thursday, Nov. 29, 3-7 p.m. and Friday, Nov. 30, 9:30- 10:30 a.m. at the Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg where Services will start at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery, Perrysburg.
Memorial donations may be to the Disabled American Veterans, Cincinnati, OH or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
