Robert E. “Skip” Claypool, 84, of Haskins, passed away October 15, 2023, at Otterbein SeniorLife in Pemberville. He was born the son of Robert M. and Grace T. (English) Claypool on August 10, 1939, in Fremont, Ohio. Skip graduated in 1957 from Gibsonburg High School. He enlisted and served in the United States Army from 1960 until 1968. Following his honorable discharge, Skip worked for Hunt’s Foods in Rossford, then pursued a career as an instrument control technician, first for Fermi 2 Nuclear Power Plant in Monroe, MI, then Brunswick in Southport, NC, Comanche Peak in Glen Rose, TX, and finally Turkey Point in Homestead, FL. On July 22, 1967, he married Carolyn Shue at Faith United Methodist Church in Gibsonburg, and they were married 53 wonderful years until her passing on October 8, 2020.
Skip was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waterville, Ohio, and IBEW. In his free time, Skip was an avid bowler and golfer and loved to watch the Cleveland Indians, the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes.
Left to cherish his memory are his children; Robert “Rob” (Julie) Claypool of Bowling Green, OH, Michelle (Aaron) Murphy of Powell, OH, grandchildren; Keely and Brady Murphy, Robert “Bo” and Andrew Claypool; sister, Trudy (Allen) Nicholson; brother-in-law, Larry (Vickie) Shue of Woodville, OH, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, Carolyn Claypool, he was preceded in death by his infant son, Brian Claypool, and brother, Richard (Connie) Claypool.
Visitation will be held Saturday, October 21, 2023, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM until 4:30 PM at Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Crematory, 319 W. Madison Street, Gibsonburg, OH, 43431. Funeral services will begin at 4:30 PM at the funeral home. Pastor Meg Bogen will officiate.

Burial will take place privately at a later date at West Union Cemetery with military honors.
