Richard F. Watson, 87 of Fremont passed away on December 15, 2023, at ProMedica Memorial Hospital.
He was born on August 16, 1936 to the late Harold and Nellie (Dukes) Watson in Mark Center, Ohio.
After graduating from Fremont Ross High School in 1954, Richard went on to work for the Ford Motor Company in Sandusky until his retirement in 1995 and proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1954 until 1962.
On September 1, 1979, he married Alice M. Rethinger at St. Ann Catholic Church in Fremont and she survives.
Richard enjoyed boating and fishing in his younger years, as well as golfing and bowling in leagues later on in life. He was a member of the Fremont VFW and an avid Detroit Tigers fan.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Alice Watson; children, Michael (Diane) Watson of Marion, Julie Watson, Mark (Rhonda) Watson, Richard L. (Linda) Watson, and Robert Watson all of Fremont; grandchildren, Megan (Nik) Watson, Alexander (Kate) Watson, Jordan (Brian) Watson, and Cory Watson; four great-grandchildren; and siblings, Charlotte McCachren, Rolland (Karen) Watson, and Glen (Sandra) Watson.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Nellie; brothers-in-law, Charles McCachren, Rev. Omer Rethinger, and Paul Rethinger; and sister-in-law, Mary Welch.
Visitation for Richard will be held on Thursday, December 21 from 4:00-6:00pm at Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, Fremont. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 22 beginning at 10:00am at St. Ann Catholic Church with burial to follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Donations in Richard's name may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis, Tiffin or to the Sisters of Mercy, Fremont.
