Richard "Dick" Lawrence Witte, 82, of Tiffin, passed away January 6, 2024, at Elmwood Assisted Living in Tiffin. He was born March 12, 1941, in Elmore, Ohio, to Carmella (Miller) and Lawrence Witte.
Dick was enlisted in the United States Air Force on December 8, 1959 until his retirement on January 31, 1980. He received various honors and medals during his service and served in the Vietnam War as a Tactical Aircraft Technician for F-4 fighter planes. He was also stationed in Thailand, in Paris, France, and at numerous bases in the US including California, New Mexico, Ohio, and Virginia, where he also worked on several other planes including the F15 fighter. While enlisted, Dick married Susan "Sue" Bauer in 1966, together they traveled around the states as needed for his military duties.
Dick and Sue eventually found their way back to Ohio, to live in Gibsonburg. Dick enjoyed attending the shows at Jamboree in the Hills. He also enjoyed solving word search puzzles, was a Boy Scout Leader, and was a member of the Gibsonburg American Legion. Dick also loved dogs, especially cocker spaniels, of which he owned many over the years.
Following his career in the military, Dick retired for good from the Fremont Post Office where he was a mail carrier for more than 20 years.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Rich Witte of Tiffin, Ohio; Ron (Kelly) Witte of Tiffin, Ohio; Randy (Ericka) Witte of Bloomsdale, Missouri; Ryan (Kendra) Witte of Fremont, Ohio; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, of 53 years, he is preceded in death by his brother, Dave Witte, and an infant brother.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Crematory, 319 W. Madison Street, Gibsonburg, OH, 43431. Memorial services will begin at 12:00 PM at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at West Union Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Gibsonburg American Legion.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gibsonburg American Legion, 300 S. Main Street, Gibsonburg, Ohio.
