Paul Richard Zilles, age 90, passed away from natural causes on December 26, 2021. Paul was born on August 22, 1931 in Riley Twp. to George Elmer Zilles and Hattie Ellen (Zweily) Zilles. A Korean War veteran, Paul served in the US. Air Force from 1950-1954 as an aircraft maintenance technician at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska. Later he was reassigned to McGhee Tyson Air Force Base in Knoxville, TN where he met his future wife, Helen Carmichael. They dated and married in 1955. They couple eventually settled in Fremont, Ohio, where Paul worked and retired from Ohio Bell as an installer/repairman. After retirement, Paul enjoyed transporting RVS from Goshen, Indiana to Anchorage, Alaska in the summer months. He was a longtime member of Fremont's Fraternal Order of Eagles 712 Aerie and Fremont VFW Post 2947.
Paul was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen; sisters Norma Jean Gahn, Dorothy Lamalie, and Diane Troxel; and grandson Corey Hayslip. Paul is survived by his sons, Steven (Dawn) of Lenoir City, TN, and David of Fremont, OH; granddaughters Stephanie (Mike) Smith of Springdale, Arkansas and Danielle (Justin) Rich of Knoxville, TN; and great grandchildren Greyson and Ava Smith.
Others to cherish Paul's memory include sister Joyce Smith of Fremont, OH; brothers Robert (Lil) Zilles of Fremont, OH and Leonard (Micki) Zilles of Altamonte Springs, FL; brothers-in-law Robert Lamalie of Lakewood Ranch, FL and James Troxel of Upper Sandusky, OH; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside service will be held at Faust Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the charity of their choice in Paul's memory, or to the Alzheimer's Association.
