Paul Mielke

June 22, 1926 — July 20, 2019

Paul Edward Mielke, 93, formerly of Fremont, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at The Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky. He was born on June 22, 1926 in Fremont to Milfred & Gladys (Wolfe) Mielke.

Paul was a graduate of Fremont Ross High School. He joined the United States Army and bravely fought in World War II as a medic. He was part of the liberation of concentration camps and experienced some of the horrors of WWII. He was discharged in July of 1946 and received the American Campaign Medal, The European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and The World War II Victory Medal.

After his enlistment, he began his working career going to area dairy farms and collecting milk for the PET milk company. He will be most remembered for owning and operating his own house painting company, Mielke Paint Contractors.

Paul was instrumental in bringing Men’s Fast Pitch softball to the Fremont area especially in the Eastside Park. He was a lifelong member of the VFW and the Eagles. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to flea markets, looking for historical military artifacts. Paul also collected stamps.

In 1949, Paul married Patricia Montgomery in Kentucky. They were married for 53 years before her passing on April 21, 2002.

Paul is survived by his children, Cindy Mead of Fremont, Bradford (Patty) Mielke of Sandusky and Pamela (Robert) Sachs of Kansas, OH; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia; and daughter, Theresa “Terry” Mielke.

Burial with Military Rites at Oakwood Cemetery will be private.
