Paul Cochey, 84, of Gibsonburg, passed away February 27, 2022. He was born at home in Fremont on October 13, 1937, to Paul John and Margaret (Hausman) Cochey. Paul attended Fremont Ross High School and later worked as a heavy equipment operator for over 36 years until his retirement. He served in the Army National Guard and received in honorable discharge in 1964. On April 25, 1989, he married Sharon Bateson in Bradner, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on February 4, 2021. Paul was a gifted wood worker. He could spend all day in his garage creating anything from furniture to wooden home and Christmas decorations complete with lights. When he wasn’t working in his garage Paul could also be found caring for the landscaping on the 7 acres of land he and his wife owned, watching the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Indians and NASCAR. He is best remembered as being a simple man who also was a true chevy person through and through, his favorite model being the 1957 Chevy car.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Sandy and Steve; Stepdaughter, Teresa (Barry) Leibold of Gibsonburg; numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren; siblings, Charles (Pina) Cochey, Robert (Kathy) Cochey, Judy (Pat) Hubbs; and brother-in-law, Jack Gentry.
In addition to his parents, and his wife, Sharon Cochey, he was preceded in death by his stepson, Duane Clabaugh and sister, Trudy Gentry.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 4, 2022, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM with funeral services beginning at 1:00 PM at Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, 900 North Street, Fremont, Ohio, 43420. Pastor Matthew Wheeler will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens in Clyde.
