Norma J. Hetrick, 99, of Fremont, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 2, 1925, in Fremont, to Sylvester and Helen (Haubert) Meyer.
Norma worked for Woolworth's Five and Dime, Tony's Bakery, Howard Zink Corp. and Hasselbach Meats in Fremont. In 1948, she met Merl and they married in 1953 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, and he preceded her in death on June 21, 2014.
Norma's family was the center of her world. She cherished her children and grandchildren, whose love and laughter brought her endless joy. Although she never expected to marry a farmer, she fully embraced life on the farm alongside Merl, finding purpose and fulfillment in all that she did. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel nearly all 50 states with her close girl friends before settling into family life, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Later in life Norma and Merl continued to travel to many places.
A woman of many talents, Norma loved Western Square dancing with Merl, playing cards with friends, canning, reading, gardening, bingo, and finding joy in sewing and quilting. Her favorite food was chocolate.
She is survived by her children Deborah (Robert) Grayson, Brenda (Thomas) Fulkerson, both of Fremont, Jerry (Casandra) Hetrick of Lindsey, Bonnie (Rob) Heminger of Helena, and Cindy (Dennis) Abdoo of Toledo; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings: Wilbur and Clarence Meyer, Dorothy Carnicom, Bernardine Blodgett, Ursula Zoeller, Marcella Noftz, and Arlene Hoffman.
