Martin McCollum

Fremont

Martin C. McCollum, 85 of Fremont passed away at his home surrounded by his family on December 15, 2024. He was born on September 23, 1939 to the late Dayton and Evelyn (MacDonald) McCollum in Hessville. 

Martin proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves before working for the Whirlpool Corporation. He retired from the company in 2000 after a 37 year career. 

After retiring, Martin began and ran his own towing company, L&M Garage, for the following 20 years. 

On November 22, 1963, he married Darlene E. Parker and have shared over 61 years together. 

Martin was a member of the Fremont VFW and the Moose Lodge and enjoyed volunteering his time with Sandusky County Share and Care. He found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren and the many children who visted Share and Care. His family will fondly remember his love of chocolate and how he was always in a good mood. 

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Darlene; daughters, Lynn (Mike) Valle of Fremont and Marla (Al) Sidell of Gibsonburg; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; numerous bonus grand and great-grandchildren; and sister, Jeanie Honaker of Hessville. 

Martin is preceded in death by his parents, Dayton and Evelyn; two brothers, Donald and Lyle; as well as two sisters, Joann Druckenmiller, and Ruth Miller. 

Services for Martin will be private for the family. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in Martin's name are encouraged to the American Cancer Society or to Sandusky County Share and Care.
