Marie "Therese" Gabel, 91 of Fremont passed away on November 30, 2023 at Elmwood Assisted Living. She was born on August 17, 1932 to the late William S. and Helen R. (Gase) Wagner in Tiffin.
On April 23, 1955, Marie married Norman J. Gabel and shared over 55 years together before his passing in 2010.
Therese graduated from Tiffin Calvert and went on to obtain a degree in Nursing from Mercy College. She worked as the Director of Nursing at St. Bernadine Home.
Her family will fondly remember her as a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Therese was a fantastic bridge player, and an even better pianist. She was a member of the Terra Choral Society, the St. Joseph Church and Funeral Choirs, was a Camp Fire Leader, volunteered with the Red Cross, and worked in the gift shop of Memorial Hospital. Therese was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Deborah (Steve) Billow, Michael (Elizabeth) Gabel, Robert (Kimberly) Gabel all of Fremont, and Mark (Diane) Gabel of Columbus; grandchildren, Jenny Moyer, Brad Gabel, Carrie Rumsey, Erin Shannon, Zachary Gabel, Stacy West, Stephanie Billow, Sam Gabel, and Alex Gabel; great-grandchildren, Derek, Grady, Carter, Mason, Maddie, Griffin, Audrey, Lily, Claire, Jack, Noah, and Olivia; and brother, Michael Wagner of Tiffin.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Helen; husband, Norman; daughter, Mary E. Gabel; and brother, William H. Wagner.
Therese's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Elmwood Assisted Living and Heartland Hospice for their respect and care.
Visitation will be held for Therese on Saturday, December 9, beginning at 8:30am in the Parish Hall at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fremont until the start of Mass at 10:00am. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Donations in Therese's name may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church to go towards a sidewalk awning, or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
