Maria Del Socorro Barrera

Maria Del Socorro Barrera, 86 of Hessville passed away on Wednesday, October 30 in the comfort of her home. She was born on July 12, 1938 to the late Joaquin and Julia (Limon) Bejarano in Brownsville, TX. 

She married Alberto Barrera and shared many happy years together until his passing in 1998. 

Maria was a member of St. Michael Catholic Parish, Gibsonburg, and was active in the Guadalupe Society and Friendship Club. 

She enjoyed crafting in her spare time, sewing and creating gifts for those she loved. She also enjoyed listening to Tejano music. Those she loved will remember her heart of gold. 

Surviving are her close nephew, Ruben Bejarano; and trusted friend and neighbor, Cheryl Sanchez. 

Maria is preceded in death by her parents, Joaquin and Julia; husband, Alberto; and brothers Raul, Santiago, and Baldemar Bejarano. 

Visitation for Maria will be held on Sunday, November 3 at the Herman-Veh Funeral Home, Gibsonburg from 3:00-7:00PM. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, November 4 at St. Michael Catholic Parish beginning at 10:00AM. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Clyde at 2:30PM. 

Donations in her name may be made to St. Michael Catholic Parish Guadalupe Society, or to Heartland Hospice.
