Larry D. Hamons, 82, of Fremont passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2023. He was born on April 6, 1941 in Berlin Heights, OH to the late Arnold and Evalena (Lykins) Hamons.
After serving in the U.S. Army, Larry began his working as a brick layer and cement finisher. He started his career at the former G.W. and Pioneer Sugar Mill in Fremont where he worked as a foreman for 34 years retiring in 2003. Larry was a member of The Fremont Elks and the Clyde Moose.
On October 3, 1969, he married the love of his life Diann Szakovits at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fremont. Together they shared 53 years of marriage.
Larry enjoyed woodworking, and spent many hours in his shop making light houses, lawn ornaments, santas and Ohio State fences to name a few. He will always be remembered for his designing and craftsmanship of 1,000's of Christmas Ornaments, which Diann would paint and they would give away. This tradition started in 1990 with yellow hearts for veterans of Operation Desert Storm then grew to white, red and green Christmas Ornaments yearly. Family and Friends will be decorating with them for years!
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Diann; children, Brad (Hattie) Hamons of Clyde and Jamie (Brian) Wagoner of Fremont; grandchildren, Oliver (Addy) Hamons of Bettsville, Hannah Hamons, Dylan Wagoner, Jake and Jax Nickel all of Fremont; step-grandchildren, Justin (Hannah) Rife of Clyde, Kaley (Travis) Rexroth of Fremont; 4 step-great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary (Kelly) Sallee of Willard, Norma Woessner of FL, Shirley (Ed) Knoll of Norwalk and Ina (Chilt) Miller of Norwalk; and brother and sister-in-laws, Shirley Chambers, Paul Szakovits, JoAnn Cook, Jim Szakovits, and Julie Lindsay and spouses.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jodi Hamons; brothers, James, Billy, David, Arvil and Joseph; and sisters, Mattie Booze and Carolyn Taylor.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Visitation for Larry will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, Fremont from 2:00-7:00 PM where a Vigil will be said in the evening. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023, 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fremont with Military Honors to follow at the Fremont Yacht Club along with a time to celebrate his life and share a meal.
