Judi "Judes" Darlene (Linder) Smith 79, of Fremont, passed away at Elmwood Assisted Living where her husband, Tom, and she have resided. Her peaceful departure from us occurred Wednesday morning, December 29, 2021, while holding the hand of her beloved husband.

Judi was a lifelong Fremonter, born on February 8, 1942 to Willis and Dorothy Moerder Linder. She attended Fremont Ross High School, graduating in 1960. She then earned her Bachelor Degree in teaching from Capitol University. At that point, Judi, or Mrs. Smith, began working in the Clyde School System. Later, Mrs. Smith transferred her skill to Fremont Ross where she instructed students for over 30 years in the fields of French language and Modern Novels. Her love for teaching was appreciated by many students that held a kinship with her. Her classroom was an easily found hangout for some of her students and her son's friends. Her French students may have traveled on one of several trips she took to France or maybe enjoyed one of Mrs. Smith's Fondue Parties.

Judi married Thomas G. Smith on April 10, 1965. Together they went to lunch or dinner, visiting all the local restaurants. She would encourage the buy local as she would often ask rhetorically, "Why should I cook when there are so many restaurants nearby?" She traveled with family and friends through Europe, Asia, Mexico and Australia and leisured playing cards with her friends and reading. Staying in touch was important to Jude. Friends and family would always know when a note came from her as it was written with a green pen. She loved the color green; even collecting green Depression glass. She also had love of animals and would watch and keep daily tallies of the deer that would visit her yard.

Judi leaves behind her husband, Tom; son, Christopher (Sharon) of Fremont; grandchildren Maurene (Jarrad) Whited & Jared Fox; "adopted" children, Chick and Heather Kovaleski; and brother Loren (Debbie) Linder; many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents and infant daughter, Toni.

Visitation will take place on Monday, January 10, 2022 from 2-4&6-8P.M. at Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, 900 North Street, Fremont, Ohio 43420

Funeral services will take place at 11A.M on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at the funeral home. Certified Celebrant Susann Robitski Zimmerman will officiate. Additional visitation will begin 1 hour prior to services at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the loving staff from Elmwood Assisted Living for the years of care and respect they gave to Tom and Judi. They would also like to thank ProMedica Hospice, in particular, Brenda Foos for the comfort that was given to Judi in her final days.
