Josefa L. Ysasi, age 86 of Fremont, passed away January 22, 2022 with her family by her side. She was born to the late Guadalupe and Ysabel (Hernandez) Lerma in Brownsville, Texas on Nov. 15, 1935. She was married to her beloved late husband Elifonso Ysasi Sr. in 1955.  She was the last of her siblings.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Susanita Ysasi; granddaughter, Raquel Ysasi; grandsons, Jose Andres Ysasi Chavez, Guadalupe Jose Ysasi Chavez and Christopher Samuel Ysasi.

She is survived by her children: Gloria (Richard) Garcia, Yolanda (Bruce, dec.) Pugesek, Elifonso (Darlene) Ysasi Jr., Belinda (Rafael) Chavez, Susana (Mitch) Greene, Nora Ysasi, Norma (Jesus) Saucedo, Eleazar (Darleen) Ysasi, Israel (Maria) Ysasi, Ricardo (Lynda) Ysasi, Herlinda (Fred) Tijerina, Isabel (Beau) Ickes, Elias (Yessenia) Ysasi, a host of loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and special friend and sister-in-law Carmen Lerma.

A loving mother and homemaker, Josie (Gramma Tortilla) was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Josie was a dedicated sports fan and unbeatable at euchre. She also worked for the Fremont City Schools for 20 years. A special note of thanks to Promedica Hospice for its constant care.

A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 709 Croghan Street, Fremont, Ohio, 43420. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Use of a mask will be required at services. For those unable to attend, please follow the link provided on her obituary page to access live-streaming of her services.
