Jose Garcia of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2024, at the age of 64.

Born on November 30, 1960, Jose graduated from Libby High School in 1978. Jose’s adventurous spirit led him to join the Marine Corps, where he served in recon. He took great pride in his time in the military and the skills he developed during his service. After his military service, Jose worked as a security guard at the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Plant. As a child, he could often be found fishing, camping, or exploring the woods. He carried a deep love for music, especially the soulful sounds of Santana and Selena. He had a natural talent for playing the drums and congas. Jose and his brother Stevie even started a neighborhood band, sharing their love of rhythm and sound with those around them.

Among his other passions, Jose’s Harley-Davidson motorcycle was one of his true loves, embodying his free-spirited nature and love for the open road. Also a devoted sports fan, Jose enjoyed watching Ohio State football and the Detroit Pistons. One of his most exciting memories was attending a playoff game where the Pistons' “Bad Boys” defeated the Celtics.

In 1998, an accident left Jose significantly disabled, but his resilience and humor shone brightly despite the challenges he faced. Jose cherished the simple joys of life, like a fish sandwich and milkshake from McDonald’s, and he absolutely loved to laugh. Visits from family always brought a big smile to his face as they made him feel loved. He was known for flashing his signature "peace" sign in photos. He loved to tell his family how much he loved them and humorously responded to their life updates with a quick sign of the cross.

Over the last 25 years, Jose’s Catholic faith became central to his life, providing him with comfort and strength. He especially enjoyed his visits from the priest, which brought him peace and spiritual connection.

He is survived by his six sons and two daughters: Stacia Fernandez, Christian Menchaca, Jose “JoJo” Garcia, Katrina Foster (Spenser), Joseph “Joey” Garcia, Blake Dickerson, Spencer Garcia, and Gabriel Garcia; and his grandchildren: Josephine, Enzo, Priscilla, Seneca, Vanessa, and Elias.

Jose is also survived by his father, Steven Garcia; his siblings: Stevie, Daniel (Claudette), Alamar, and Omar; nieces and nephews, Elena Marie, Daniel, Derrick, Deon, Devon, Thomas, Andrea, Antonio, Kaihya, and Levi.

He is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Andrea (Flores) Garcia, and his grandparents: Barbarita and Arnulfo Flores, and Martin and Juanita Garcia.

Jose’s enduring love for his family, his humor, and his faith will be remembered by all who knew him.

A celebration of Jose's life will be held on Saturday, January 4th, at 10:30 a.m. at Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Crematory, 319 W. Madison Street, Gibsonburg, OH, 43431.
