John W. "Flower" Cook, 88, of Fremont, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2022 at his residence. He was born November 24, 1933 in Fremont, the son of John and Margie (Cochran) Cook. John graduated from Fremont Ross High, was a proud United States Navy Veteran serving from August 1956 thru August 1960. John worked for Tony's Bakery, Kelsers, Doug Henry Excavating, Ohio Liquid Disposal and ultimately retired from Mosser Construction. He married Jeanine Risner and they later divorced.
On August 17, 1985 he married JoAnn Szakovits.
John was a member of the Fremont Speedway Hall of Fame. As an avid racer he drove and owned several cars over the years as well as maintained a 30+ year partnership with Don Linton and L+C Racing .
Surviving is his wife JoAnn of Fremont, children: Jonny Ray Conley, Matthew (Tammy) Mittelhauser and Andrea (Gary) Goble; grandchildren: Kelly Conley, Kevin Conley, Tiffany (Brandon) Ross, Megan Sweeney, Geri (Matt) Morgan, Lauren (Jake) Sigler, Joshua Goble, Jacob Goble; great-grandchildren Rhemi, Delaney, Kenzley, Aiden, Josie, Michael John, Anna, Emma and Ella; siblings Madonna (Norbert) Foos, Sue Quednau; numerous nieces and nephews, he was a special uncle to many. He was preceded in death by his parents, great- grandson Casey, sister Nancy Notestine and brothers-in-law Wilbert Quednau and Gene Notestine.
The family would like to thank Promedica Heartland Hospice and Dr. Valone and staff for their support and care.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, September 15, 2022 from 4-8P.M. at Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, 900 North Street, Fremont, OH. In honor of John's love for racing, racing tees and casual attire are encouraged for visiting and services. Funeral services will begin at 10:00A.M. on Friday, September 16th, at the funeral home, Deacon Mel Shell to officiate. Additional visitation will begin immediately prior to services at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery with military graveside rights performed by the V.F.W. and American Legion. Memorial contributions may be made to Fremont Speedway Hall of Fame, ProMedica Hospice or Donor's Choice.
