Jerry L. Preston, 69, of Fremont passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at ProMedica Memorial Hospital, Fremont. He was born in Fremont to William and Eileen (Craft) Preston. Jerry loved athletics from a young age. During high school he was the class athlete, lettering in every sport that was available to participate in. He graduated from Green Springs High School in 1969. Through the years, Jerry worked for Eckrich and Chemi Trol before retiring from Ford. After officially retiring, he worked for Oakwood Cemetery and was currently working for Rice Township. Even after high school, Jerry liked to follow sports especially NASCAR, football and baseball. He also enjoyed hunting and will be remembered as the man that anyone could turn to for help, guidance or even a friendly face.
On June 5, 1971, he married Joan Carnicom at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Fremont. Together they shared almost 50 years. Also left to cherish his memory are children, Jerry (Gina) Preston Jr. of Georgetown, KY and Jill (Kurt) Stevenson of Bluffton, SC; grandchildren, Hunter Stevenson, Kennedi Preston and Karsyn Preston; and siblings, Robert (LaVina) Preston of Fremont, Patricia (Gerold) Burkholder of Republic, Don Preston of Green Springs, and Dave Preston of Willoby.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, William.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 from 11:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. at Ole Zimm’s Wagon Shed, 1375 N. OH-590, Gibsonburg, OH 43431. Use of a mask will be required at all services. Please note that social distancing will be observed. Funeral Services will begin at 1:00 P.M. and burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Fremont. For those unable to attend the Funeral Service or the burial, live streaming will be available on the funeral home's homepage under the Live Webcasts tab.
