James D. Mumaw

James D. Mumaw, 76, of Fremont, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at his residence. He was born August 12, 1947 in Fremont, the son of James Gordon and Ruth (Mitchell) Mumaw. Jim was a United States Army Veteran serving as a radio and systems repair man. He was honorably discharged with commendations for Sharpshooting and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. On August 4, 1980 he married Mary Ellen Russell.
Jim was a 1965 graduate of Lakota High School and went on to attend Toledo University and B.G.S.U earning degrees in Electricity. He went on to teach at Vanguard and Terra State College over a period of 51 years. Jim was a member of the former Moose, enjoyed gardening, boating and photography. Together he and Mary Ellen enjoyed darkroom photography, trips to Florida, anniversary cruises and the company of their dogs.
Surviving is his wife Mary Ellen of Fremont, special nephew Paul (Penny) Russell of Fremont, great niece Pamela and great-nephew P.J. He was proceeded in death by his parents and great-niece Paige Russell.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, April 11, 2024 from 2-4 and 5-7 PM at Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, 900 North Street, Fremont, OH. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 AM on Friday at the funeral home, Bishop Robert L. Jones will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the Terra Foundation.
