James (Jim) Griffith Krotzer, 75, of Gibsonburg, passed away March 22, 2023 at ProMedica
Toledo Hospital. He was born October 2, 1947 in Fremont to Albert (Oppie) and Velma
(Reimer) Krotzer. On July 12, 1975, he married the love of his life and best friend, Sheryl Lynn
Clark, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gibsonburg. Jim and Sheryl are the parents of two
children, Jamie (Bo) Evarts and Bradley James, and the grandparents of Lexi (Alex Ferris), Elly,
and Jacoby. Jim's grandchildren were his greatest joy! He spent countless hours traveling to
sporting events, plays, concerts, and all other activities in which they participated. It was no
secret that Jim absolutely adored these three special people and was exceedingly proud of
their accomplishments.
Jim was a 1966 graduate of Gibsonburg High School and went on to Findlay College where he
was proud member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and made lifelong friendships. He
graduated in 1970 with a degree in Physical Education. From 1970-1980, he taught K-6 Phys.
Ed. and coached football for Fremont City Schools. Jim then became a foreman at Pfizer Lime
Plant in Gibsonburg, before eventually moving on to a 20-year career at the water department
for the Village of Gibsonburg. He retired as Superintendent in 2005.
Jim was an avid fisherman and hunter who genuinely loved the outdoors. He loved spending
time in his garden, doing yardwork, and riding his bike. Jim enjoyed "making the rounds" daily
to Kate and Al's, Madison Street Tavern, and Ideal Bakery for the newest Gibsonburg "story"
and cookie or a donut or two! He especially loved having coffee each day with his son and
son-in-law as well.
Jim was an active member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served several terms
on church council. Jim was also a 46-year Life Member of the Madison Township Gibsonburg
Volunteer Fire Department joining April 12, 1976. He was blessed to serve GVFD with his
father and then later his son. He was also a member of the men's group - Soulhaven Bros -
where topics related to faith and the Bible were discussed bi-weekly. After retiring from
employment with the Village, he served his community on Gibsonburg Village Council.
Jim is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren and his sister, Barbara Straube of
Maumee. He is also survived by his wife's siblings - Linda (Neil) Gordon, Judy Clark, Gary
(Debbie) Clark, Mark Clark, and Nelson Legowski and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws (Kenny and Charlotte Clark), his sister-in-
law, Carol Foley, and his brother-in-law, Peter Straube.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff of the CICU at ProMedica Toledo
Hospital for their outstanding care and compassion during this difficult time.
