Fremont- James “Jim” Joseph Denman, 76, passed away unexpectedly on Wed., Jan. 16, 2019 in Fort Myers, FL, but was surrounded by his immediate family members in his last hours. He was born on April 15, 1942 in Abilene, TX to the late Jan (Droszcz) and Kathryn Denman.
Jim graduated from Fremont St. Joe High School in 1960. He “worked” as a housing rehab specialist for WSOS until his retirement in 1996. Upon retirement, Jim and Barb (Gabel), his wife of 48 years, loved spending the warmer months in Fremont and traveling south for the winter to their Ft. Myers home. They both enjoyed golf, swimming and, most of all, spending time with their three boys and their families. Watching their 7 grandchildren in athletic, scholastic and social events was the highlight for Jim for the past 17 years. Shooting his age in golf a few times was a close 2nd.
If you knew Jim at all, you would say that his personality was his strongest attribute. He was quick-witted and was always good for a laugh… often at his own expense. He was also very competitive and athletic and loved playing handball, racquetball and especially golf. He never let his frugality get in the way of spending money on golf balls or the 20+ putters he owns. It didn’t help.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara (Gabel); children, Michael (Kerrie) of Maumee, OH, Matthew (Michelle) of West Dundee, IL, Christopher (Courtney) of Whitehouse, OH; seven grandchildren, Max, Madison, Madelyn, Ali, Ava, Miley, and Lily; and his sister, Elaine (Fred Recktenwald).
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jan and Kathryn and two brothers, Michael and Anthony.
Visitation will be held at the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont on Mon., Jan. 21, 2019 from 3-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tues. 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church.
