James "Jim" A. Auen passed away on September 4, 2021. Jim was born on October 4, 1961 in Erie, Pennsylvania. He lived in Erie, Pontiac, IL, Bowling Green, Marion and Bettsville. He graduated in 1980 from Bettsville High School and from MTA Trucking School in Columbus, OH in 1981. On July 6, 1985, Jim married Sarah Burmeister. He volunteered at Bettsville Fire Department for 5 years. He enjoyed truck driving for 40 years and worked for several companies, area farmers, and Simon Trucking. He worked for Prairie Builders then Whirlpool for 25 years, retiring in 2012 on disability. Jim volunteered delivering Thanksgiving dinners for the VFW, Red Cross donating blood and platelets, tornado cleanup in Millbury, and at youth events for church and schools. Jim enjoyed taking his family camping for 30 years, going to his children's schools sporting events, he loved going with Nick to many auto races, and watching his children show animals at the fair. The past 4 years he received dialysis at the U.S. Renal and was loved by the staff. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Fremont.
Jim is survived by his wife Sarah (Burmeister) Auen; his children Julie (Toledo), Nick (Fremont), and Kellie (Toledo); brother-in-law Sam Zinaich and Sammy Zinaich of Homewood, IL; 2 grandpups Razz and Zeke; 2 grand kitties Monica and Chandler; and especially his beloved Calico Cat, Fluffy; aunts and cousins, many friends, brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Jim is preceded by his parents Tony and Donna Auen, his sister Susan (Auen) Zinaich, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, and brothers-in-law Dave Burmeister and Ed Brugger.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 14th from 4-8 p.m. at Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, Fremont. A Memorial Service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, Fremont on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. with an hour of visitation beginning prior to the service. Maureen Pump will officiate. Friends and family may gather at Sandusky Township Fire Station after the service to celebrate Jim's life.
