Ervin R. Damschroder, 92, formerly of Gibsonburg, passed away on March 31, 2024 at Elmwood Assisted Living, Fremont, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 16, 1932 in Madison Twp. to the late Ray D. and Nellie (Driftmyer) Damschroder.
Ervin was a 1950 graduate of Gibsonburg High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. During his time in the Army, Ervin worked as a surgical technician at the base hospital in Aberdine, MD. Upon returning home he worked as a laborer at Libbey Owens Ford in Toledo, retiring in 1991, and then worked for his sons at Root’s Poultry from 1991-2007.
On October 23, 1955, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Root.
Ervin was a life member of the Gibsonburg Legion Post 17 and a member of the former Trinity United Methodist Church.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Beth; children, John of Toledo, Julie (Steve) Hubbard of Phoenix, AZ, Mark (Jeanette) of Fremont, Mike of Woodville, and Bill (Tishia) of Columbus, daughter-in-law Kathy of Elmore; grandchildren Patrick and Nick Shea, Katie (Hilary) Manning, Zack Hubbard, Matt (Taylor) Damschroder, Annette (Shawn) Reed, Steven Damschroder, Megan (Brad) Sander, Chelsea (Peter) Muller, Greg (Allysa) Damschroder, and Tom Damschroder; great-grandchildren Nolan and Lila Reed, Gracin, Sloane and Hayes Damschroder, Evan, Emersyn and Weston Sander, and Madden and Boston Muller.
He was the last surviving member of his family, preceded in death by his siblings, Carl, Louis, Albert, Ward, Ruth McCoy, Elsie Deininger and Thelma Henline, and great-grandchildren Walker and Sawyer Muller.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 5, 2024, from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Herman-Veh Funeral Home & Crematory, 319 W. Madison Street, Gibsonburg, OH, 43431. Additional visiting will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Gibsonburg Community Church Trinity Campus, 200 E. Madison Street, Gibsonburg, OH, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM at the church. Burial with military honors will follow at West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg. For those unable to attend, live-streaming of services will be available by following the link on his obituary page.
Memorials in honor of Ervin may be made to Gibsonburg Community Church, Heartland Hospice, Sufficient Grace Ministries or donor’s choice.
