Elizabeth "Betty" Harlan, 96 of Fremont passed away on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Bethesda Care Center in Fremont.
She was born on June 25, 1928, in Hessville, OH to the late Clarence C. and Glenna (Lehman) Schwartz.
Betty graduated from Gibsonburg High School in 1946 and married Keith "Skeet" Harlan on October 22, 1949, at Emmauel Lutheran Church in Hessville. She was his biggest fan and she enjoyed going to his games. They shared many years together until his passing on March 1, 2009.
Betty worked for a number of years at Weigand and Union Carbide and was the bookkeeper at Tschumy's Furniture and Interiors for 29 years, retiring when the store closed in 1996.
She loved working and shopping downtown. It was the place to be, and everyone knew her. To give back following the birth of her third child, Martha, Betty became a blood donor, donating a lifetime amount of over 7 gallons. Her hand crocheted thread doilies were beautiful, and she spent many hours working on them. She loved to bake, and in later years was never without her Reese’s peanut butter cups and Heineman’s Pink Catawba wine.
Betty is survived by her children; Mark Harlan of Burlington, VT, Rachel Clawson of Hewitt, NJ, and Martha Brewis of Lambertville, MI; grandchildren, Jason Brewis, Andrew (Sarah) Brewis, Shane (Sarafina) Clawson, Stephen (Victoria) Clawson, and Skylar (Shane) Adams; and great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Nora Brewis, Theodore and Benjamin Clawson, and Jackson Clawson.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Keith "Skeet" Harlan; parents; sons-in-law, James Clawson III and Gerald Brewis; and siblings, Marian Moenter, Donna Sandrock, Gail, Richard C., Allen, Willard, and Gerald Schwartz.
