David L. Ross

May 22, 1947 — January 23, 2025

Fremont

David L. Ross, 77, of Fremont passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Toledo Hospital.

He was born on May 22, 1947 in Fremont to the late Ivan and Norma (Timmons) Ross. On December 17, 1966, he married the love of his life and best friend Valerie Heselton at Grace Lutheran Church in Fremont and embarked on a 58 year journey where they were blessed with 3 children, 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and countless memories.

After graduating from Fremont Ross and starting college, David proudly answered the call to serve his country in 1966 by joining the United States Air Force, where he obtained the rank of sergeant.

Upon returning from the Air Force, David started a career in banking, later receiving a diploma in commercial lending from the University of Oklahoma. David started as a teller and through years of hard work earned the position of Vice President of commercial lending at Fremont Savings Bank. Following his bank’s acquisition by National City Bank, David retired in 1995.

Outside of work David enjoyed spending his time golfing, taking trips with his family, fishing, duck hunting, landscaping, and passing on life lessons to those he loved.

Whether he was visiting America’s battlefields or sharing his family’s heritage, David had a lifelong passion for history. He took great pride in knowing where he came from and continuing his family’s legacy.

David was a member of the Fremont VFW, Elks, and American Legion. As a strong believer in the value of community, David also served on the board of directors for Camp Fire of Sandusky County and Chamber of Commerce, taught classes at Terra State Community College, and volunteered as an advisor for the local Junior Achievement chapter.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Valerie; children, Tanya (Gene) Wheeler, Rhonda (Chad) Black, and Chad Ross; grandchildren, Jessica (Bryant), Jason (Erika), Devin (Ashley), Alyssa (Joey), and Makinsey (Cage); great-grandchildren, Trace, Wyatt, Ravyn, Rowen, Aubree, Adalynn, Elise, Josie, and Arbor; brother, Neal (Theresa) Ross; and many nieces and nephews. His family will always remember his loving and humorous nature. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Norma; and sisters, Mary Jo Blody and Loriann Wood.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 30th at the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, Fremont from 3:00-7:00 PM.
