David Lee Overmyer, a respected member of the Lindsey community, passed away on June 22, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on December 5, 1945, in Fremont, OH, the son of Ralph and Alice (Paul) Overmyer. David lived a remarkable life filled with service, dedication, and a passion for various activities and hobbies.
After graduating from Fremont Ross High in 1963, David served in the United States Army during the Korean War, earning several medals for his valor. Following his military service, he continued his education and pursued a career at the F.B.I. in the Photographic Laboratory Department, where he honed his skills.
Returning to his roots in 1968, David took on the role of Circulation Manager for the Fremont News-Messenger and Port Clinton News Herald until his retirement in 2000. Alongside his professional achievements, David was a kidney transplant recipient in 1999, showcasing his resilience and courage in the face of adversity.
Throughout his life, David found joy in various hobbies, including kayaking, skiing, cycling, and chair caning. His love for model railroading, volunteering, and dedication to mission trips to Appalachia Kentucky exemplified his generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
David was an active member of the community, serving as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher at the former Lindsey United Methodist Church, volunteering at various organizations, and was a proud Ohio State Football fan. His passion for giving back extended to his roles in organizations such as the R.B. Hayes Presidential Library and Museum, ProMedica Memorial Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, Cherry Street Mission, Wreaths Across America and Life Connection of Ohio.
Surviving are children: Sarah (Nick Burroughs) Sprenger, Karen (Bill) Rohrbaugh; grandchildren Lauren and Austin Sprenger, Quinlan and Anniston Burroughs, Billy Rohrbaugh; brother Paul A. (Cheryl) Overmyer of Lindsey, OH; sister Patricia Payton, Columbus, OH;niece Tracy (Michael Meggitt ) Overmyer; great-nieces and nephews: Pierce, Lance, Bailey, Mallory and Stone. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside service in honor of David Lee Overmyer will be held at Lindsey Cemetery on July 7, 2024, at 2:00 pm, where friends and family will gather to pay their respects and celebrate his life. Pastor Henry Seibert will officiate. Visting will begin 1 hour prior to the services at 1P.M.. Memorial contributions can be made to Life Connection of Ohio.
