Watch Chrissy's Service Live Here: Chris Mears Funeral Service Stream

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Chris "Chrissy" Mears on September 20, 2024, in Cookeville, Tennessee, while doing what she did best—helping others. If you knew Chrissy, you know that putting others before herself was not just something she did, but it was who she was at her core—selfless, kind, and compassionate. She had a heart of gold, always eager to lift up those around her. Chrissy was the truest friend, a loving wife, and a cherished family member whose absence will leave an irreplaceable void in all our lives.

Chrissy was preceded in death by her beloved family members, father-in-law Ralph Mears, brother-in-law Jim Mears, and grandparents Alice and Woody Pasch who have passed before her. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Gary, her stepson Kyle Mears, her beloved grandchildren Raelyn and Edward, father, Joe (Darlene) DiGiovanni mother, Dianna Kroeger, mother-in-law Marjorie Mears, and her loving siblings Annette (Richard) Lynch, Matt (Deidara) Kroeger, Mark Kroeger, Ted (Vanessa) Kroeger, and Joe DiGiovanni, brothers-in-law Larry (Jenny) Mears, John (Debby) Mears and their families. Together, they carry forward her legacy of love, strength, and dedication to family.

Chrissy’s story began on February 13, 1966, in Detroit, Michigan. Growing up, she embraced her roots as a proud Michigan fan, a loyalty that stayed with her throughout her life. At the tender age of four, she moved with her family to rural Fremont, Ohio, where she and her siblings learned the value of hard work and perseverance. Life was not always easy, but Chrissy’s determination and spirit drove her forward.

She began her professional journey at Whirlpool in Clyde, Ohio, where she met the love of her life, Gary. After four years of dating, they were married on October 20, 1990, marking the start of a partnership grounded in love, humor, and unwavering support. Chrissy often teased Gary, calling him her "Hero," even through life’s most challenging moments.

Driven by her work ethic, Chrissy pursued her education while working full-time, eventually earning a degree from the University of Toledo. She never boasted about her accomplishments, but her quiet pride shone through in the way she lived her life. Chrissy paid for her education through hard work and grit—traits that defined her character. She built a successful career as a Vascular Sonographer, touching many lives through her mentorship and dedication. She was always willing to take on extra responsibilities at work, very seldom missing a day and consistently striving to help those around her.

Chrissy’s dedication extended beyond her career and into her home. In 2007 she and Gary embarked on building a home together north east of Tiffin, Ohio, a project where she poured her heart and hands into every detail. From laying fieldstone stone, painting, flooring, landscaping, on and on as well as adding personal touches to each room, Chrissy's hard work and love were woven into every corner of their home. For the last nine years, she devoted herself to caring for her mother-in-law, a testament to her selflessness and love for family.

Chrissy's impact on this world will be felt for years to come by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her kindness, dedication, and unwavering love for her family and friends will never be forgotten. As we grieve this incredible loss, we take solace in knowing that her spirit will live on in the countless lives she touched.

A time of visitation for Chrissy will be held on Monday, September 30 from 2:00-4:00PM and 6:00-8:00PM at the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, Fremont.
