Chester Mauch

d. April 24, 2023

On April 24, 2023, Chester Carl Mauch, 97, of Lindsey, Ohio passed peacefully into heaven in the comfort of his family and in the home he was literally born in on January 11, 1926 to Hugo and Augusta (Krienkamp) Mauch.

Two years after graduating from Gibsonburg High School in 1943, he married his high school sweetheart, Betty Ruth Evans Mauch on June 23, 1945 who preceded him in death on February 3, 2022. They were married 76 and ½ years where together they set an example of true love and commitment (their love story was so admired, they were known to hold hands wherever they went, and liked to be called Mom and Dad by anyone who knew them.) Together they farmed the land they both loved and raised 6 children. Also preceding Chester in death were his father in 1939 when he was a freshman and his mother when he was a junior in 1941; daughters Barbi Mauch, Peggy Wearsch, Mary Mauch, Judy Mauch, daughter-in-law Anita Mauch and great granddaughter Taylor Parker.

Surviving Chester are his daughter Phyllis (Michael) Bergman of Carmel, IN and son Ronald Carl Mauch of Lindsey, OH and son-in-law Dan Wearsch of Avon, OH; grandchildren: Sheryl (Matt) Quigley, Carla (Rodney) Gray, Amy (Ryan) Ade, Lynne Kovach, Ashley Parker Flickinger, Ryan (Alexa) Parker, Nik (Megan) Wearsch, Johanna (Josh Talbert) Wearsch, Jacob (Crystal) Younker and Carl Mauch; step grandchildren: Daniel (Jennifer) Wearsch, Tina (Scott) Sears, Kathi (Joel) Lancaster, Debbie Wearsch; great grandchildren: Evelyn Smolenski, Gabe, Madison, Matthew and Metta Quigley, Alexa, Olivia and Sophia Ade, Brennan LeBenne, Ridley Sabo, Ty James and Tatum Parker, Olivia and Greyson Wearsch, Nieve and Yoav Talbert, and Douglas and Fayma Younker; step great grandchildren: Meredith, Loren and Pete Wearsch, Nikolaus and Morgan Lancaster, Amanda Sears, and Eric, Samantha and Elizabeth Wearsch; and great-great granddaughter Eliana LaBenne.

Chester began farming in his seventh grade because of his father’s illness and loved it all his life; even after retiring from active farming he continued to be involved in useful ways. He LOVED being outside. He also loved people and enjoyed conversations with everyone he met.

Chester was elected to the Lindsey Bank Board in 1958 and continued as a director when they became Liberty National and then Bank One. He was elected to the Fremont Sugar Beet Board serving as president it’s last 10 years of existence which required him to represent the Ohio/Michigan Region on the National Beet Board. This involved numerous trips to Washington, D.C. to represent beet farmers and work closely with the beet industry and the legislature during farm bill planning. He also gave input on the sugar industry to the National Farm Bureau National Association. Additionally, Chester served 20 years as Sandusky County Soil and Water Supervisor. He continued his community service by being a member of the Sandusky County Farm Bureau, the Tomato and Pickle Growers Association, serving on the Church Council of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hessville and Grace Lutheran Church in Elmore. In his early years he taught Sunday School and led a 4-H club. He also was a Lions Club member and even tried becoming a volunteer fireman. When he retired from active farming he became CEO and main consultant of Mauch Farms with son Ron and daughter Judy becoming General Partners in Mauch Farms.

Visitation will begin on Tuesday, May 2 at 11 am – 2 pm followed by additional visitation from 4 – 6 pm on Tuesday, at Ole Zim’s Wagon Shed, 1365 N OH 590, Gibsonburg, OH 43431.
