Charles F. Scherer Jr., 80, of Lindsey, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Toledo Hospital. He was born April 21, 1942 in Fremont, the son of Charles F. and Mary (Foos) Scherer. In October 1963 he married Evelyn Burgess in Massachusetts.
Charles was a United States Navy Veteran serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He went on to work in quality control and retired from Midwest Stamping.
He was a former member of Lindsey Volunteer Fire Department, the Eagles and V.F.W. As an avid golfer, he was frequently found at Sugar Creek Golf Course. When not golfing, he enjoyed playing cards with his buddies and bird watching . He was the ultimate host, providing plenty of food, beverages and an endless supply of laughter.
Surviving is his wife Evelyn of Lindsey; sons Troy, Todd (Babs) and Jason (Brandy), daughter-law Roxanne Scherer; 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; siblings Beth Binkley, Agnes Halbisen, Mike Ankenbrandt-Scherer, Margaret Loesser, JoAnn Henry and Sue Netzel. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father Harold Fry, son Steven and siblings Carolyn Welch, Chet Fry and Barb Scherer.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 from 2-6P.M. at Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, 900 North Street, Fremont, OH. Funeral Services will begin at 6P.M. followed by Military Honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to dipserse according to his wishes.
