Charles “Chuck” Nason, 73, of Lakeside Marblehead, passed away January 11, 2024. He was born in Port Clinton, Ohio, on April 15, 1950, to Donald and Geraldine (Lucas) Nason. Chuck was a 1968 graduate of Lakeside High School. In April of 1969, he enlisted in the United States Army, and served in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in July of 1971. Following his service in the military, Chuck earned an associate’s degree in accounting and graduated in 1980 from Terra State Community College. On April 4, 1986, he married Dorothea (Laubacher) Nason in Fremont, Ohio, and they enjoyed 36 years of marriage until her passing on March 5, 2022. Chuck was a truck driver for the Shelly Company for many years until finally retiring in September of 2019.
In his free time, Chuck loved being outdoors and tending to the flowers in the garden, fishing and traveling. He also attended The Chapel in Port Clinton. Chuck loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is fondly remembered as being a jokester and had the most infectious laugh that never failed to get his family to laugh along with him.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Douglas (Leigh Ann) Nason of Fremont, Melissa (Nel) Portales of Port Clinton; grandchildren, Amber (Kelsey) Portales, Brandon Portales (Megan), Paige Portales, Cheyenne (Craig) Smith, Tyler Waggoner Nason, Enrique Portales (Sydney), great-grandchildren, Alaina Smith, Weston Smith, Kaiser Smith, Zander Portales, Cora Mae Portales, Theordore Haig-Portales; siblings, Carolyn Castle of Sandusky, OH, Robert Nason of Cleveland, OH, Edward Nason of Clewiston, FL, Frances (Robyn) Nason of Port Clinton, OH, Anna May of Oak Harbor, OH, Richard Reiling of Wisconsin, special niece and nephew, Kim (Jeff) Warwick, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Dorothea Nason.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, 900 North Street, Fremont, OH, 43420. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with military honors to follow. Pastor Peter Dodd will officiate.
Burial will take place at a later date at Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Nason family or to The Chapel, 4650 E. Port Clinton Eastern Road, Port Clinton, Ohio, 43452.
