Carolyn Mae Kromer sadly passed away on July 10th 2024 at the age of 92.
She was born on July 30, 1931, to the late Ralph and Hilda (Rausch) Schlack in Jenera, Ohio.
On Sept 2, 1950, Carolyn married Ralph Kromer who was the love of her life. Together, they shared 47 wedding anniversaries before his passing in 1998.
Carolyn was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother, cat lover and devoted bus driver who was always there for those she loved when they needed her the most. She was a friend to many and offered support, wisdom, and love in abundance.
Carolyn was a cherished member of the community in Lindsey, OH and member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Fremont.
Carolyn was the first woman bus driver for the Fremont Ross School District, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, strength and a memorable smile for all who rode her bus. When Carolyn wasn't driving bus, she spent her time collecting bells, playing cards, swimming at the YMCA, and volunteering at Valley View Health Campus. In her younger days, you would have found Carolyn riding motorcycles, snowmobiling in the UP of Michigan, or riding go-carts in the back yard with her kids. Carolyn was an incredibly brave woman, some could even say a wild child, who enjoyed doing things outside the box.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Hilda Schlack; Husband Ralph W Kromer; brother, Robert Schlack;sister, Betty Rettig; granddaughter, Kelly Lynn Kromer; and daughter-in-law, Karen.
Surviving are her seven children Stephen (Holly) Kromer, James (Barb Hoffman) Kromer, Gerald (Rita) Kromer, Debra Whitaker, Karen (Arthur) Figuero, Shari (Dave Dillon) Kromer, Stevie (Christine Blodgett) Kromer, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and countless friends who felt her warmth and generosity.
The family would like to thank the staff members who went above and beyond for Carolyn during her 7 years at Valley View Health Campus. These memorable staff members are Shannon, Jackie, Brandy, Ashley and Kristen.
To commemorate her incredible journey and to celebrate the love she spread, a time of visitation will be held in her honor at Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory, Fremont from 10:00AM-12:00PM on Tuesday, July 16. Funeral services will begin on Tuesday at 12:00PM, and burial will follow at Lindsey Cemetery. We invite all who knew her to join us in remembering a truly remarkable woman.
Donations in Carolyn's name may be made to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital.
