Carol Sue Baker, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 15, 2024, in the care of Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Her body, mind, and eventually, her spirit, had grown weary after battling multiple bacterial infections throughout the summer.

Carol was born October 16, 1940, the daughter of Ada and Sherman Baker. She was a proud resident of Gibsonburg, Ohio, where she served as cosmetologist for 50 years in her sweet little beauty shop in the backyard of her home on Stevenson Street. She loved keeping up with and sharing in the lives of the town's people, carrying on multiple conversations at a time with the gal whose hair she was cutting in her chair, the one in foils under the dryer, and the three waiting to be seen. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women's Group, Junior Women's Federation, and Trinity Church in Gibsonburg, where she served as the Junior Choir Director, Primary Sunday School Teacher and she led the congregation to the annual conference for many years. Carol was a Red Cross Youth Group Leader and fondly remembered celebrating birthdays with residents at the different nursing homes around the area and noted that she always wanted to write a book on how to run a nursing home properly.

She was preceded in death by her brother Paul, who died of polio as a toddler, and her sister, Jean Lou Baker (Bob) Wonderly, of Helena, OH. She was the proud cousin of Jim (Diane) Baker, aunt of Steve (Nancy) Wonderly, Terri (Ted) Parks, Joe (Nancy) Wonderly, Mike Wonderly, Matt (Linda) Wonderly, and Jeff Wonderly. Carol was a very loved GREAT Aunt to Katie, Abby, and Betsy Wonderly (Gordon) Trainor, whom she spoiled over the years with good movies and chocolate and peanut butter-covered Rice Krispies and wrote weekly letters throughout college to nourish their roots. She was a great-great aunt to Dominic (Hope) Ward, Braeden Wonderly, Malani Halbeisen, Evyn Schoenfeld, and Pheraline and Sariah Trainor, with whom she loved to share her music boxes and sing "You are my sunshine". She had a beautiful singing voice and gifted her loved ones with an annual serenade in person or over the phone on their birthdays. The night before she passed, she herself was serenaded with a 3-year-old version of "Happy Berfday" by her youngest great-great niece as she boarded a plane in Spain.

Carol attended North Central College in Illinois to study cosmetology and decided to return home to a town she loved to share her skills and days. Carol also loved to travel. Her favorite trips were visiting Europe, Nashville, Charlottesville, Graceland, and San Antonio with her best friends Phony and Sandy. She enjoyed many lifelong friendships with her high school girl friends, her neighbors, her congregation, and her clients at the beauty shop. She loved Kris Kristoferson and attended more concerts than any of us can remember. She was a social butterfly and brought laughter and joy to all the lives she touched. She was also a little bossy, and was nicknamed BABS (an acronym that shall not be defined here...) at her later-in-life home in Green Springs, Ohio, because of her sassy ways and strong opinion. She aged with grace and character and had a deep appreciation for all those who cared for her and straightened her photos again and again. She loved to watch women's basketball, read great books, especially those about the ways of the Amish, the ways of the Kennedy's, and the ways of billionaires. She loved her closest companions in life, her dogs, Georgie Girl, McGee, and Bailey. She showed up for each day of her life with gusto, lived her life to the fullest, as defined by her and her relationship with the big guy above, and her presence in our days will be greatly missed.
