Austin James Driftmyer, 43, passed away on December 1, 2022. He was born January 29, 1979 to James E. and Linda K. (Caskey) Driftmyer in Toledo, Ohio.
After graduating from Gibsonburg High School in 1997, Austin joined the U.S. Coast Guard earning the rank of Seaman. He later settled in Las Vegas and became a skilled Ironworker for the Local 433. After the Boom he moved onto Tower Crane installation, Wind Farms and Oil Rigging.
Using his experience from work, he became a self-taught bladesmith, specializing in hunting knives. Austin also enjoyed spending time with his buddies in Utah hunting and fishing.
Left to cherish his memory are his parents, James E. (Linda K.) Driftmyer; son, Colin James Driftmyer and girlfriend, Haidee Fernandez; Maternal grandmother "Granny" Janet Caskey; aunts, Mary Jo (Matt) Cannizarro, Carol (Mike) Byrne; and cousins, Julie and Christopher Byrne.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Leonard Caskey; aunt, Joann Caskey; paternal grandparents, James M. and Virginia M Driftmyer.
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, December 16, 2022, at 10:30 AM at St. Michael Catholic Church, 317 E. Madison Street, Gibsonburg, OH. Fr. Thomas Varghese will officiate. Burial will follow at West Union Cemetery with military honors. Friends and family are invited to a funeral luncheon at St. Michael Parish Hall following the graveside services at the cemetery.
