Meredith Lucille Mert Brininger, 86, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Elmwood Nursing Home in Green Springs, OH. She was born on November 15, 1924 in Avon Lake, OH to Joseph and Helen (Shell) Pitts and formerly lived on Circle Dr. in Fremont until she made her home at Elmwood. Mert was member of the 1943 class of Clyde High School. During WWII she worked at Bierlys Sohio then at Miller Pontiac/Cadillac and Cox & Sons Cleaners. She owned and operated Macs Cab Company in Clyde and later started Macs Cab in Fremont in 1960. From 1961 1964 she operated Fremont City Bus Line. Mert often donated the use of her large coach and passenger vans to various local youth groups. The job of driving bus for the School of Hope and Sandco for 22 years was very special to her. She became the transportation coordinator for the School of Hope before her retirement in 1995. She was a member of the Women of the Moose Auxiliary and former member of the Eagles Auxiliary, the Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary; the Soroptomist Club of Fremont and the Order of the Eastern Star, Clyde Chapter. Mert was on a Womens Bowling League and in the 1940s she played for the Howard Zink Womens Traveling Softball Team. She also enjoyed golfing.
Surviving is a sister, Roberta Bobbie Frampton of TX; eight nieces & one nephew; many great nieces and great nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Elizabeth (Gerald) Shearn and Martha L. (Lamar) Russell; and one niece.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 25, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Christine Tobergte officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. A celebration of Merts life will take place at the Fremont Moose Lodge on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 1 p.m. where friends and family are invited to share their memories.
Memorials may be made to the School of Hope or the Sandusky County Humane Society in Merts memory.
