Margaret Peg Brown, 88, of Holland, Ohio and formerly of Fremont and of Naples, Florida, died Thursday morning, July 27, at St. Lukes Hospital in Maumee. She was born on July 27, 1918 in Fremont to the now deceased Byron C. and Ruth (Overmeyer) Burkett. Peg was a 1936 graduate of Fremont Ross High School where she met her future husband, Homer. On July 3, 1939 she and Homer married in Fremont and he survives. Throughout her life, Peg and Homer also resided in Horton, KS, Sylvania, Ohio and Naples, Florida. In Naples, Peg belonged to the First United Methodist Church and was very active in its womens fellowship group. She also as a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Fremont and the Opti-Mrs.Club in Naples and enjoyed beach combing, crafts and playing pinochle. She was a cellist in the high school orchestra and enjoyed music all her life.
Surviving are husband, Homer; daughters, Anne (Tom) Downs of Maumee, Jean (Phil) Ramsey of San Ysidro, NM, Sue (Bruce) Peterson of Independence, Oregon; five grandchildren, Elizabeth (Dan) Steele, Darren (Marlene) Downs, Martin Downs and Kyle & Colin Ramsey; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Wendell Bud Burkett, Genevieve (Charles) Hensley both of Fremont, Pat (Don) Schankee of Naples, FL, and Richard Dick (Janet) Burkett of Fremont. She is preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Elizabeth Betty Oldham, Helen Creighton and Susie Burkett.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 1-3 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont.
Services will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Randy Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association or to the First United Methodist Church, 388 First Avenue South, Naples, Florida, 34102.
