Irvin Cyrus Burmeister, 93 of Jackson Twp., Fremont, Ohio went to be with the Lord on January 12, 2009 at Memorial Hospital, Fremont. He was born on March 8, 1915 to Henry and Catherine (Behnken) Burmeister. Irvin graduated from Salem Oak Harbor High School in 1933. Irvin was a retired farmer.
On August 24, 1940 Irvin married Ruth Caroline Smith at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kingsway, Ohio. His wife of fifty-two years passed away on April 22, 1992.
He has been a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Fremont for over forty years, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, was a member of Grace Fellowship Church Council and played church dartball. He was a member of Farm Bureau and Jackson Twp. Farm Council. Irvin enjoyed caring for his trees, doing 1000 piece puzzles, reading, riding on his golf cart and most of all his large family.
Survivors include his eight children and their spouses: Larry (Kathleen) of Gibsonburg, Joann (Edwin) Brugger of Oak Harbor, Lamar (Sue) of TN; Betty (Charlie) Gonya, David (Sandra), John (Nancy), Sarah (Jim) Auen all of Fremont and Kathleen of Bradner, Ohio. Irvin had twenty grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren and he also enjoyed his adopted granddaughter, Amanda Riznikove Feuher of Port Clinton, Ohio. Also surviving Irvin is sister, Alma Puestow of Oak Harbor, OH, nieces and nephews. Preceding Irvin in death besides his wife are parents, Henry and Catherine Burmeister, brothers, Carl, Rollin and Clarence.
The family wishes to acknowledge the prayers, love and support of many during his illness and the special help of Martha McCoy and Kevin Schwochow.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 16, 2009 from 2-9 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Services will be at Grace Lutheran Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with one hour of visitation at church prior to the service. Pastor Paul Gruetter and Pastor Jim Avers will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Kingsway, Ohio.
Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, the American Red Cross or to Home Health of Memorial Hospital in Irvins memory.
