Alice S. Baacke, 81 of Fremont, died Saturday, April 21, 2007 at Valley View Health Care Center, Fremont. She was born on March 8, 1926 in Warwood, WV to the now deceased Charles and Fay (Willemin) Speer. Alice was a graduate of Wilkinsburg High School in Pennsylvania and a graduate of the University of California in Santa Cruz with a Bachelors of Sociology and Psychology. On May 2, 1944, Alice married George C. Baacke in Pittsburgh, PA and he died in 1978. Alice worked as the Elderday Activity Director in Santa Cruz, CA, retiring in 1991 and she also was a bookkeeper for JC Penneys. Alice was a member of the Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church, Fremont. She was also a member of the Alumni Association of the University of California in Santa Cruz. Alice served as president of the Chautauqua Literary & Scientific Circle Book Club, volunteered with Hospice of Memorial Hospital, conducted Grief Workshops and enjoyed reading, collecting books and traveling.

Surviving are children, Charles H. (Patricia) Baacke of Fremont, Sharon Fay (Steve) Abbott of Arvada, CO, Dr. George Clifford Baacke II of Cortez, CO, Jonathon S. (Linda) Baacke of Sewickly, PA, 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; special friend of 27 years, Harry W. Dole, Jr. of Fremont; siblings, Joseph Decamanda of MI, Mary Lou Hammond of Columbus, Max Decamanda of Reno, NV and Martha Decamanda of CA. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Jane Grodi.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 27 from 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Services will be on Saturday, 10 a.m. at Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Denise Turpin officiating. Burial will be held at Bloomingdale Cemetery in Bloomingdale, OH at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Memorial Hospital or to Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church.
