Merle L. Claycomb, 83, of Fremont and formerly of St. Petersburg, FL, died on Sunday, April 6th at Countryside Continuing Care Center, Fremont. He was born on February 1, 1925 in Osterburg, PA to the late S. Lloyd & Mayme E. (Carn) Claycomb. Merle was a 1943 graduate of Jackson- Burgoon High School. He later enlisted in the U. S. Army and served in Guam following WWII, honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1947. On September 9, 1950, he married Monica E. Tuckerman at the 1st Presbyterian Church, Fremont and she survives. Merle was a plant superintendent at the former Singer Controls /Eaton Corporation in Fremont, retiring in 1987 after 40 years. He was an avid fisherman and continued fishing upon moving to Florida after his retirement.
Also surviving are his sisters-in-law, Constance (S. Blair) Claycomb of Fremont, Hilda (George) Claycomb of Maryland; nephew, Richard L. (Linda) Claycomb of Fremont; nieces, Kim (Todd) McRoberts of Strongsville and Susan E. (Ken) Rexroad of Maryland. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, George and S. Blair Claycomb.
Services will be had at 11 a.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Saturday, April 12th with Pastor Denise Turpin officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial with military rites by the Fremont American Legion will be at Metzgar Cemetery.
