Jack Michael Mike Combs, age 58, of Fremont died at the Firelands Hospital in Sandusky Saturday night, May 10. He was born on January 16, 1950 in Middletown, OH to the now deceased Jack Combs and Marie (Jackson) Smith. He was raised by his grandparents, William Mack and Luella McCuistion. Mike was a 1968 graduate of Middletown High School and attended North Central College in Illinois for two years. He served in the Marine Corp from 1971 1975 including one tour during the Vietnam Conflict. Mike worked as a Paramedic for Sandusky County, being the first paramedic hired when Sandusky County began its emergency services. Mike also had worked for the Gibsonburg Police Department for a number of years. He participated in competitive weight lifting with the State of Ohio Police Olympics for several years and was an avid asphalt sprint car racer, usually at the Sandusky Speedway.
Surviving is his son, Bradley (Heather) of LaCrescenta, CA; granddaughters, Claire Madison and Madelyne Avery; aunt, Mildred (Paul) Fox of Middletown; half-sisters, Cheryl (Robert) Tharpe of Springboro and Janine (Charles) Rice of Middletown; and stepmother, Regina Combs of Middletown. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Visitation will be on Thursday, May 15, 2008 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Services will be Friday at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Todd Gates officiating. Burial with military rites by the Gibsonburg and Fremont American Legion Posts will be at Lindsey Cemetery.
