Dick L. Conrad

Former Gibsonburg resident, Dick L. Conrad, 85, passed away Sunday morning, May 22, 2011, at the Parkcliff Community in Toledo, where he enjoyed activities & socializing the past three years. He was born in Deshler, OH on January 31, 1926 to the now deceased Charles E. and Lavinia (Red) Conrad. Dick played football, basketball and track at Gibsonburg High School where he graduated in 1944. He served his country during WWII as a soldier in the Navy. On June 10, 1950, he married Alice Widman at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fremont, and she preceded him in 2008. Dick was an avid Buckeye fan who enjoyed following his childrens and grandchildrens activities. He grew up on farms and enjoyed gardening and animals in his adult life. He was employed for many years by Catalytic Construction in Toledo. Dick was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 1138, the Gibsonburg Masonic Lodge & Chapter, Gibsonburg United Methodist Church and Fremont Alliance Church.

Surviving Dick are his sons, Richard L. Dick (Cheryl) Conrad of Holland, OH and Steven M. (Bette Jo) Conrad of Gibsonburg; grandchildren, Kelsey and Cameron Conrad of Holland; and sister, Elaine Halbirt of CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice; sister, Bernice Milligan; and brothers, Glenn Conrad, William L. Conrad and Charles Conrad.

Friends and family will be received from 7-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 26th at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Gibsonburg. Funeral services will be on Friday, May 27th at the Fremont Alliance Church beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg, with military honors performed by the Gibsonburg American Legion.

Memorials may be made to Fremont Alliance Church or the Sandusky County Humane Society in Dicks memory.
