Mary Ellen Cooley, 78 of Fremont, died on Sunday, July 29, 2007 after a long battle with cancer, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on January 15, 1929 in Tiffin to John and Katherine (Anderson) Bakos. Her mother died when she was two weeks old and she was later adopted by Ignatius and Angeline Logsdon of Booktown. She grew up on their farm and graduated from Fremont St. Joseph High School in 1947. She then married Harry Cooley. Eight children and nearly 23 years later she was left to raise her family on her own. Mary Ellen found employment within the Fremont City School system and spent the next 36 years of her life driving bus for hundreds of children. She retired in 2005. Mary Ellen was a member of the VFW. Surviving are children, Lynn (Tom) Giebel of Tiffin, Scott (Jane) Cooley of Virginia Beach, VA, Bryan (Marcy) Cooley of Fremont, Gail (John) Falter of Clyde, Mark (Sandy) Cooley, Jeff Cooley, Lisa (Jim) Szakovits and Chris Cooley all of Fremont; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; half-brother, John (Jean) Bakos and birth sister, Norma Jean (John) Crawley. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Gilbert Logsdon and Don Logsdon and a birth sister, Joan McCarthy. Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 1, 2007 from 3-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Funeral services will be on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Memorial Hospital.
