Gene Benlein, age 72, of Silverdale, Washington passed away on March 27 at the Harrison Hospital in Bremerton, WA. He was born on June 6, 1935 in Fremont, OH to the now deceased Edward A. and Amelia Emma (Maston) Benlein. Gene graduated from the Sacred Heart Mission Seminary in Girard, Pennsylvania in 1953.
Retiring after 20 years of service in the US Navy, he and his wife, Beverly (Burris) and son Jim lived in Northeastern Illinois. Genes next career, of fifteen years, was in credit union data processing. Following his second retirement, Gene and Beverly moved to Silverdale.
Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Beverly and son Jim of Silverdale; brother Franklin of Tiffin and sister Pamela (Vincent) Palmieri of Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Graveside memorial services will be held Saturday, April 26, 10:00a.m., at the St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery, Gibsonburg. Rev. Ted Miller will officiate and military committal rites will be conducted by the Gibsonburg Post of the American Legion.
