Bernard J. Blechinger, 89, of Fremont Ohio, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Fremont on April 7, 1922 to John and Edith (Heschel) Blechinger. Bernard was a 1940 graduate of St. Joseph High School. He married Arlene Dahlstrom on April 24, 1948 and she survives. Bernard served in the United States Army Air Corps as an aviation mechanic during World War II, receiving European Theater Ribbon with 6 Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Ribbon and The Bronze Star Medal. He is retired from Moores Business Forms and after retirement he worked for the News Messenger as a bundle route carrier for Gibsonburg and Woodville.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene Dusty, son William (Kim) of Highland, Il, son, Bernie (Christy) of Woodville, Oh and daughter, Linda (Les) Lundberg of Fremont, Oh. He will be missed by his grandchildren: Erica (Jamie) Hasselbach, Ryan Blechinger, Angela Blechinger (Travis Ross), Jon Blechinger, Lenna (Adam) Gill and Cara (Cody) Maenle. He loved spending time with his great-grandsons, Jacob & Jaret Hasselbach and August and Anderson Gill. He is also survived by his brother, Loren (Marianne) Blechinger, sister, Dorothy (Jim) Quaintance, all of Fremont, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William.
Visitation will be on Saturday, April 23, 2011 from 9:30 11 a.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Deacon Jim Hammer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery with military rites performed by the American Legion and VFW.
Memorial donations may be made to Volunteers of America, Bethesda Care Center or Hospice of Memorial Hospital in Bernards memory.
