Carl R. Damschroder

October 11, 1926 — January 31, 2005

Carl R. Damschroder, 78, Gibsonburg, died Monday morning at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. He was born on October 11, 1926 to Ray and Nellie R. (Driftmyer) Damschroder in Busy Corners, Sandusky County. Carl was a 1945 graduate of Gibsonburg High School and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a salesman at Veh & Son Furniture for 44 years retiring in 1990. Carl was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Gibsonburg, and Village of Gibsonburg Councilman for 10 years, he served as Mayor of Gibsonburg for 2 years, was a member of the American Legion Post 17 and co-chair of the Gibsonburg History Book. He married Marilyn McGee in November 1947, she died in 1987. He then married Rev. Carole A. (Williams) Long on July 8, 1989 at Faith United Methodist, Gibsonburg and she survives.

Also surviving Carl are stepchildren Joseph Long, MI, Commander Julie (Long) Miavez, HI, grandson Oliver Damschroder, step grandchildren Scott, Andrew and Amanda Long, John Miavez; brothers & sisters Albert (Leola) Damschroder, Gibsonburg, Ruth McCoy, Risingsun, Thelma Henline, Fostoria, Ward Damschroder, Perrysburg, Louie (Sheila) Damschroder, Gibsonburg, Elsie (Evanlee) Deininger, Gibsonburg, and Ervin (Beth) Damschroder, Gibsonburg. Preceding him in death are his parents, first wife, and son Scott Damschroder.

Visitation will be on Friday from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Gibsonburg. Services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Faith United Methodist Church, Gibsonburg with visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. Dr. Jerel Jackson will officiate. Burial will follow at West Union Cemetery with Military services provided by the American Legion Post 17.
